5Love it!  Oct 25, 2011

Looks Awesome!! You do have to get creative to mount it on the wall though. I bought two 97 cent heavy duty hooks with rubber molding around them from wal-mart and bent the hooks after mounting in the studs in the wall with a rench so that the rack can equally supported on the wall from under the back lip of the bottom of the barrel. If you use this method to mount it, be sure the hooks are flush with back side the barrel. I twisted the hooks so they stick out of the wall about 2 inches. It hangs perfect and appears to be pretty sturdy. Also, be sure to hammer in the stapel in the center to prevent the wine bottal from slipping out like some left in a review prior to mine. My only complaint is that the "wine stain" that is suppost to smell like wine, smells more like a stain someone did by hand. Aside from that, I love it.

5Fantastic display item for wine lovers  Apr 10, 2011

If you like wine inspired decorative items, this is truly fantastic. Especially for the price. You can't miss the smell of the oak used to make this. There are other "barrel" items out there but this is one of the few (if not the only one) that hangs with the inside of the barrel facing out. You can see the stained wood from aging red wine. There's a very natural, vintage look to it.

Make sure you know what you're getting though, this is decorative first and foremost. It takes up a good amount of wall space for one. Mine measured 26 inches in diameter and was 6 inches deep from the wall. It's also heavy at 28 pounds (Amazon's shipping weight lists it at 27 pounds). You really want to make sure you can hang it on a wall stud if at all possible.

And on the topic of hanging. There's no hanging hardware that comes with it so you'll need to make a trip to your local Home Depot. The photo doesn't show it but there are two eyelets screwed into the outer edge. You could run a wire between them but that would make portions of the wire visible and it wouldn't hang flush against the wall. On top of that, the two eyelets on mine were spaced so that it would be impossible to hang straight. So you'll need to invest in some screw-in eyelets and hanging wire yourself. I bought 100 pound wire just in case. Run the wire along the inner cavity on the back side and you'll be able to hang it without any hardware showing.

As a decoration, I wouldn't recommend using it to store a full bottle of wine, especially if it has any value. It's very easy for the bottom of the wine bottle to slip off the barrel since it flares outward. Take a black #14 carpet tack and hammer it part way into the bottom and the bottle will stay put. Pick an empty bottle from a memorable night and put it up there instead. The glass holders work pretty well.

Overall, I absolutely love the way this looks on my wall. It's a very unique item and sure to be a conversation starter.
