 Decent, but it comes with a broken wire Oct 10, 2003
The wire is installed and riding in the groove of the board when the unit is boxed and shipped. Movement during shipping can bang the operating handle, which is connected to the installed wire. In my case, that caused the wire, which is restrained in the board's groove, to break (during shipping). I opened the box to find my new board in useless conditions, since the wire was broken and no spares are included. The wire should be shipped loose in the box and installed by the owner after opening. Spares should also be included. Ordering new wires from the manufacturer(I ordered 5)was simple, the wires were cheap and installation is easy. Still, the shipping/packaging people need to resolve the broken wire issue. Aside from that, the unit itself is pretty neat and receives a surprising number of compliments.

 Cuts cheese with ease! Oct 16, 2000

This item is brilliant in its simplicity. In today's litigious world, one really can't entertain without the Prodyne Beechwood CS/STwRCW. For years I have been nervous that one of my guests would hurt themselves with a knife while cutting a hunk of Jarlsburg or White Cheddar. The attached slicer takes away all of the worry. Thank you Prodyne!P.S. The cheese slicer can also be used for olives and hard boiled eggs.

I ordered the cheese cutter and it arrived in good condition and was well packed. However, two weeks later the black plastic piece that holds the wire cracked. I believe this was just a fluke. I sent an e-mail to amazon and they immediately responded by sending me a new cutter at no charge which also arrived in great condition and return authorization and shipping labels to send the other one back. I am very happy with this cutter because it's large enough for a couple of cheeses and crackers and small enough to easily carry around. Don't put it in the dishwasher(it's wood and will split).

This is a great product, especially for starting a dinner party or a cheese & wine gathering. The recessed well has plenty of room for crackers or fruit, & the slicer slices cheese smoothly & efficiently. Plus, when the evening is over, you only have to wash one item!

My parents had one of these when I was a kid and I absolutely loved it, so when my boyfriend and I spotted the last one in Target, we snatched it up and used it like crazy! When I sent him on his way, I got the dog, he got the slicer and I have been on the lookout for a new slicer and a new boyfriend ever since! Don't know why I didn't think to check Amazon (for the slicer) since I buy everything else here. If it's as good as the last two I have had, I will be back in business! "Behold, the power of cheese!"
